I just bought a 00' 250 7.3 and I love this truck. However, I've wanted an 08 450 KR since I drove one a couple of months ago. I have some questions.

Does anyone own a 450 with the 4:30 gear set? All I can find is the 4:88. I won't need the capability that gear will give. What is your RPM's at highway speeds (between 65 and 75)? What sort of mileage do you get?

How does the KR leather hold up over time? Because it's saddle leather I know it should stand up to some drastic abuse and still look good.

Are you happy with your choice? Would a 350 have been better suited to your needs? I only want the 450 due to the bigger brakes, heavier suspension and wheel and tire choice.

Finally, are there areas of the country that have a really good selection of these trucks? I live in the middle of NC and choices here are limited. :thanks

Hi, happy to say I just picked up an 08 KR & we just put a couple hundred miles on it. I traded an 05 f-350 & an 03 cobra for it & so far I am glad I did. I can't believe how much nicer this truck is, it's much quieter & overall just drives better! I had heard alot of bad things about the mileage & I have to say at 65-70 mph wwe averaged 11.5 mpg & this is with the 4.88 gears. Before anyone comments I did not buy this truck for economy, I bought it to tow a 40' 18k 5th wheel & tow it safely, legaly! My son told me I can not put seat covers on because the leather is too nice to cover, it is.Too bad all Ford leather wasn't this nice. I will keep you posted on how it does towing & driving in general after we make a few trips.

dont have a 450, but i do have 430 rear gears they are great for pulling the heavy fiver around

rpms at 75 is abit high but stil in the power band so mpg isnt that bad
13-15

pulling at 70 we run 11-13 mpg
but i didnt buy it for mpg, but instead to pull safley and with some reserve capacity

Thaks for the inputs. I do understand that we don't buy these trucks for their great mileage. I have a 4x4 250 and get between 15 and 16, 9-10 towing (thanks ULSD). However, with fuel prices as they are now, every MPG helps. Not only do I want the 4:30 for possible better mileage, I feel the 4:88 may be putting to much strain on the engine and driveline due to revving as high as it does.

I love the KR but am not happy that Ford only offers it with 5 seats. Has anyone seen a six passenger conversion?

I have a F-450 KR with 4:30 gears. At 65 mph I am turning about 2100 rpm. So far I am getting around 12-14 MPG.

I got the same when I tested a 350 with a 4:10 gearset. I'd rather have the 450.

I didn't read anything about you or your truck. Is it 4x4/4x2 and where do you live?

Some of this might be standard on the KR. It is a F-450 King Ranch 4x4, Crew Cab, 4:30 rear, 14,500 GVWR Tow package, Integrated Brake Controller, upfitter switches, heated seats and mirrors, CAB heater, Premium Audio with NAV., Rear bench seat. I've added a bit of LED lighting, Line-X Liner, Roll-N-Lock bed cover, 20K Reese Hitch, Grover StuterTone Air Horn.

I live in New Jersey but will soon be traveling the country fulltime in my RV.
