I have searched the records and I couldn't find any information on this. Has anyone tried (successfully ir unsuccessfully) to install and Excursion fuel tank in the back of a Superduty. I know the 450+ has a rear mounted tank so I would assume these will work with minor changes in a longbed but what about a short bed.

Has anyone tried it? Please chime in.

its been done, but by only a few...and even the stories ive
read from the folks that have done it seemed to discourage it...
only because it wasnt necessarily a money saver (and there
was plenty of plumbing required)

Well, money savings isn't the goal. With the shortened frame I am either going to have to build a new cross member for the front of the tank or relocate the tank all together. Plumbing is no problem and I have not done the body work on the bed yet so I can put the filler anywhere I want.

My main issue is will it fit between the bumper and the rear axle?

Who do you know that has installed one?

thanks for the info.

dont know the details enough to know 'zactly...but knowing that others
have done it means it will fit....question is, what are you gonna do
w/ the spare tire ? (mount it in the bed ?)

not knowing enough about what your trying to do i cant necessarily
think of everything <that might help>...

whats the over hang (behind the rear axle) of the excursion compared
to that of the short or long bed...considering both the long & short beds
have the spare in the same location...and the excursions tank is
mounted in the SAME location i dont THINK youll have an issue mounting
the excursion tank in the short bed frame.

if youve gotta move the spare tire to do this (assuming youll put it in the
bed of the truck) why not just put a tank in the bed of the truck ?

ive seen 39 (or so) gallon tanks that dont consume more than 9 inches
of depth in the truck beds...

under the cheddar curtain
there was a webshots montage on this. basically taking a 33gal bronco tank and putting it in the place of the frame x-member that hangs the spare tire. LOTS of work.

I like the idea of having the weight moved aft of the axle from traction stand point.

Yes I would move the spare to the bed. I am only going to have a 6' bed so a fuel tank is out of the question. A spare can be easily removed from the bed a permanent fuel tank cannot.

I am not concerned with the connections for fuel or electrical just weather or not it will physically fit in the space.

I know a long bed and short bed have the same space behind the axle. Not to mention I am just shortening a long bed frame.

So you have seen this done or just internet chatter on doing it.

I don't see how puting a Bronco (gas) fuel tank in my diesel truck is going to help. Gas motors have the pump in the tank, Diesels do not.

Anyway, I can get an Excursion tank for $50.00 with the skid plate and straps. The trucks apart so any fab work should be pretty straight forward. I guess I will just pick it up and test fit it. If it doesn't work I'll just sell it on ebay.
