i just bought a 2003 f250 powerstroke....6.0 what is the best mod to start off with?????????

Guages!! Get a set of EGT (Exhaust Gas Temperature), Boost and Tranny temp gauges. With out these you won't know that you are damaging your truck. Have fun!!! And welcome to Super Duty Diesel!

Welcome To SDD.com My First mod after gauges would be an intake. Exhaust would be a good one too, but a little pricyer than intake.

think your factory gauges are good enough....read THIS
after the gauges THEN you might consider a larger free flowing
mandrel bent stainless exhaust and (and a cat delete pipe).

i would have to say the mods are mainly based on what YOU want out of the truck...I dont want to buy a 40k truck every 5-10 years so i opted for the oil bypass and coolant filter system...both very important also will be adding a fuel cross over line soon.

If you're doing any type of towing guages are a no-brainer--that's almost unanimous advice on this site.
I agree with BushPilot, aftermarket intakes aren't worth the money. I had an aftermarket intake on my 03 and ended up pulling it off and putting the stock one back on. There's lots better "bang for your buck" in mods than a new intake. After guages I'd go with an exhaust.
FWIW, you might want to avoid a programmer or tuner with the 03 6.0. Mine had a lot of problems when I had the tuner on it, but once I took the tuner off it's been running fine. Many will say that the 03's just don't handle any type of tuners very well. Of course, there's probably 100 guys with 03's and tuners that haven't had any troubles, so I'm just passing on a word of caution to you.

Do the Zoodad mod, the CCV mod, and then put 24" windshield wipers on. Very cheap and worth the time. Then start with gauges and thing.
ive got auto meter z-series and im happy w/ 'em....they seam accurate
and theyre reliable...can get replacements just about anywhere and
theres a million retailers/online and brick and mortar.
theres just about every combination needle, font & gauge color anyone
could want available from autometer.
jegs.com or summit.com if you wanna put your own set together or
consider one of the forum sponsors who've already put the gauges in
the pod and wired 'em (i havent honestly compared those prices to building
my own...but building your own is easy enough).
i have mine mounted on the a-pilar....had to give up my grab handle
(but i doubt you need one on the drivers side anyway).
i think if i had to do it over again id probably mount the gauges up
over the rear view mirror or down under than dash.
on edit <to add photos>:
ive painted <to match> the gauge pod...and several friends have asked
if they were a factory option...and one of the friends in particular has a parent
who owns a superduty (non diesel).
If youre interested....I have a 2 gauge (a-pillar) pod...ill make you a sweet deal on it (pay the shipping and
its yours)...it has been primerd and painted (to match my interior) but will need another coat of paint to
"freshen it up"....or you can paint it to match YOUR interior.
