I am starting to notice, when I hit a bad bump or a pot-hole, that I get a little bit of a shimmy. I only have 73K miles on the truck. Is this normal or am I going to need new tie rods soon?

I would say that your truck has worn ball joints rather than tie rod ends but a shimmy in the steering wheel could be lots of different things. I had to replace my OE ball joints at around 110k miles but towing alot does put extra strain on them.

i'll second patrickc
my 99's ball joints & tie rod went out at 40k miles, had them replaced and all was good again
the 99 used to pull a 5th wheel before i got it, then my trailer didnt help any either

my first guess would be steering stabilizer, but after rebuilting the front end of my truck at 85,000 miles, anything is possible.
