My fuel gauge is stuck on full on my truck. The float isn't stuck cuz I unplugged the wire at the tank an still reads full. Tried smacking the dash and nothin. I'm going to check all the wiring now but figured I'd ask around before I get too involved. Not sure if this is a common prob or not. Thanks guys

Found the prob. The yellow wire was broke off from the sender in the tank. By the way, unplugging the connector at the tank is not a good test as it will make the gauge read full because the sender works off resistance so an open makes the gauge think it's full. If you ground the yellow wire (on a gas truck) the gauge should read empty. While I had the tank out I put a better, and bigger draw straw in the tank

Well, not so fast! I tested the sender before I put the tank back and all was good but when every thing was back in the gauge was still on full again! When I ground the yellow wire the gauge goes to empty so I know the gauge cluster is good, and the wiring is good. Not sure if the wire broke again on installation or what

Got it fixed, again! Sorry I didn't take pics I was in a hurry. The float arm is clipped to a piece of plastic that has 2 copper contact tabs. One tab slides on a metal bracket (ground, pink wire) and the other slides on the circiut board for the sender (yellow/white wire). The float arm had some play in it an the tabs were pinched in slightly causing one or both copper contact to not touch there respective surfaces at all times. I bent the contacts outward (careful, they're very thin) and put a small tie wrap on the plastic piece that the float arm clips to, to keep it in an outward position and eleminate the slop. This is from a truck that was a gasser so the diesel wiring might be a little different. I was going to get a new sender but it's $140 for the 38 gallon tank. Hopefully this can save people a few bucks
