Well, after dropping the rear tank, cleaning it and putting it back in, I was thinking about how awfully small it is and such...

I have a friend of mine who is willing to make me a tank out of 12ga steel (not shotshells :D ).

I remember discussion a while back about only certain types of sending units will work with our trucks. Is there anything I need to take into account?

Thinking of mounting a fuel bulkhead port low on the tank for pickup and using the 'normal' pickup tube for the return line so I don't have to look for two tube units. Also considering angling the bottom of the tank by about a 1/2" so we won't have to make a depression for fuel pickup. Considering putting the lower angle facing rearwards for protection of the bulkhead fitting while driving and gravity assistance to keep water out of the tank :sweet

Anything y'all have to offer would be appreciated. Aiming at the 50 gallon mark, so it shouldn't have to be too large to fit back there.

If I go through with this I may have a non rusted rear tank availiable afterwards...

Thanks,

Ron

I dont have any advice for the sending unit but....... a 50 gallon tank mounted between the frame rails in the rear position is gonna be
BIG.

Might want to do some measurement prior to building the tank. You at the very least are going to lose your spare tire storage and it might hang low enough to be a puncure candidate.....

but I wouldnt mind having your old tank, mine has developed a leak :D

Some have put a 40 gallon bronco tank in the back. Should be able to use that sender with a little modification. Or maybe make a longer float arm for the stock one? I think most automotive senders work in the same resistance range, tho you could measure with an Ohmeter to be sure. Marine senders operate in a different range for certain.
