The RV dealer I work for bought a '05 F-350 6.0 Supercab short bed with 60,000 miles at an auto auction. I had to run a work errand yesterday and took the truck.

I have to say, I was expecting more. I've heard many folks say the 6.0 in stock form outdoes a 7.3 on "steroids". Based on those testimonials, I have to admit I was disapointed.

I dunno, maybe my 7.3 is on more steroids than average? :dunno

but you have to take into consideration the gearing of the F350. me and my dad have 6.0s but mines a F250 and his is a F350 both 05s and i feel like i can run circles around his

Aren't about all Single Rear Wheel trucks 3.73?

I believe for 05, all single rear wheel PSD's had 3.73's regardless of whether its a 250 or 350. I think the only option was Limited slip, or open rear diff. 4.10's and 4.30's were available on DRW trucks.

There can be a big difference in the way these trucks "feel'. Not sure why. I have driven a few 6.0's and there's not alot of continuity between them. The 7.3's have a little more drama with the noise, etc. As far as being faster, I haven't seen that. Then again the 6.0 in question could easily have a dirty egr, fuel filters could be filthy, doesn't take much to handicap them. Even something as simple as the oil being overdue for a change can affect the way they run. Those are just my experiences, your results may vary.

Friday I got to drive the same truck again, this time towing a 6500lbs camper.

It still left me very unimpressed. While OK, the performance with the trailer was rather mediocre.

One thing I did like is the O/D gearing. The 6.0 at 65 mph turns about 500rpm less than my 7.3. Is it possible it has something like a 3.50 rear ratio? A 500 rpm difference seems to me an awful large difference, too large for just a difference in transmission.

I dunno. 6.0 450 dually pushes a plow alright. 7.3 srw pulls a 440 chrysler powered century skiboat pretty well. the 7.3 has 3.73s the 6.0 has 4.11s. i guy i know had a 4d 4x4x srw 7.3 w/3.73's and pulled a huge (35'?) camper pretty hard. has an 05 6.0 350 SIX DOOR 4x4 with banks top pack and pulls not quite as good. the 7.3 also had the full banks pack. i still am confident that the 7.3 has more "pep" to it.
