My wife wants to buy me a new GPS for Christmas to replace the old Garmin GPS-V that I use in the truck.

Do yall have any favorites or recomendations.........what features do you like or don't like?

I am considering the TomTomOne.

Lance, I just picked up the Garmin c330 for the wife from Wally world, so far I like it alot, easy to use and a good price.

bought my wife a 2720 (garmin) earlier this year...nice unit, she likes
it alot...but...i still use my old gps3+ in the truck.

FWIW i use my 3+ connected to my laptop. The laptop is running MS Streets
and Trips (2008, but ive run just about ever version since 2000 or 2001).

Street & Trips had voice turn by turn guidance, all the resturant date etc.

If i were gonna buy one for myself i think id go w/ the 276c or 376c (larger
format) and you can do the weather map overlays (if you have xm weather
stuff).

Ditto, except I bought one for our driver to use in the new Peterbilt.

I liked the flat design of the TomTomOne and the 3D navigation.

What do the Garmins do that the TomTom won't???

Garmin has been around ALOT longer than tomtom, from a support
perspective, updates and general functional perspective garmin
owns the market, and theres a reason for that <they know>.

The Nuvi's are completely flat, thinner than a deck of cards, all the
garmins have 2d & 3d/perspective navigation.

go to gpscity.com theyll allow you to do a model to model compar-o
and theyll even suggest alternatives to any model that youre interested in.

I just went to Wally World to get some Children's Tylenol and went over to the electronics section to check out the Garmin that I had bought for our Peterbilt.

When I bought it on 10-1-2007, it was 228.88, they have marked it down to 178.88

That is a very good price on this portable unit. Lance, I like this one just because of the ease to operate it and it is portable and can be switched from one car to the next, quickly.

I have had the GPS-V for alot of years and it is a quality unit. I was not happy that Garmin only only gave you 2 maps with the unit and you had to buy the others. Think I paid 5+ bills for this unit 5-6 years ago.

I link the unit to my lap top and ham radio........wonder if I can do that with the Tomtom?

Also, I need a unit that will do a crum trail.

dont know 'bout the connection to tomtom, or how they license
the mapping.

i agree the MAP selling data has been a sore point w/ the older garmins.

the 2720 that i bought for my wife came w/ EVERYTHING (including
the cdrom w/ a FULL UNLOCK code)....and i didnt pay as much for the
2720 as i did for my 3plus.

as Steven says...no one gets the USER INTERFACE BETTER than garmin.

S&T is capable of creating "crumb trails" since at least the 2006 version.
