I purchased my "X" March 2001 and replaced the first 2 batteries in May 2004. Now it looks like its time to replace batteries again.
In other way to look at battery life I am getting about 100,000 miles of driving with a set of batteries.

I am still running my factory batteries on my 2004. But I am using a battery desulphater, which is a small electronic device that you clip onto the battery to extend the life. It works by desulphating the plates, which prevents charging of the battery. On my old IDI it was every three years like clockwork.

I too am still on the OE batteries...

Im not religious about the battery desulphate
but i have one too and use it a couple of times
per year.

I consider myself to be pretty hard on the batteries
and charging system (based on my voltage monitoring)
and known HEAVY current draw and demanding audio
and electronics

im comin' up on 40months of service...and the batteries
are showing no sign of letting me down (if anything i suspect
ill be replacing the alternator before the batteries)

On our 02 Excursion we got 5 years out of the original set which was replaced in November 2006.

We now have 900 CCA Made in USA Kirklands installed:sweet

I'd like to check out the desulphater Dave speaks of:cool:

I went SAM'S CLUB and replaced both batteries (850 CCA) cost $142.00 and they installed.
That included 3 year FREE replacement and a total of 96 months of warranty.
The Battery Desulphater cost about the same as a new battery.

In 2006, one of my MC batteries in my 2002 7.3 F350 had a bad cell according to the dealer. I didn't have a problem cranking/starting. The service advisor said the other battery was fine and said I could get away with only replacing the one battery. To play is safe I told him to replace both batteries with thier best batteries which they did. In fact, I ended up getting them on sale at the dealer (saving a few bucks) I felt it was best to replace both for safe measures. I'm not sure which brand I will choose next time.
