Okay, first of all I'm not real familiar with the terminology of some of these parts so bear with me.

I installed a ported turbo housing from Ron's and now I seem to have some concerns. The turbo seem's to be working fine, all I really have to go by is the "whistle" since that is considerably more present than before.:sweet I don't have any gauges to really tell what's going on. Anyway, went on a 10 hour trip on a route I usually travel with a 28' enclosed trailer and this time time I had a small open trailer that weighed around 3k lbs. On hills I could normally pull at 65 easily on cruise I am now dropping down to around 58-60 with the cruise set on 65. No smoke, no surge, sounds like it should but it just slows down. Plus, the mileage has gone down considerably since the install and I've been trying to conserve to see how good I can get. This trip I got 8.5 and I'm used to 13-14.

Then, this morning I went to start it and when it started it made a sound I can't even describe and white smoke filled the parking lot for a minute, it was around 40 degree's. I drove it around for 15-20 minutes and the ebpv (I think that's what it's called during warm up) never kicked in.

I don't know what problems I could be having, the SE light hasn't come on, it does idle a little rough, almost like it has a cam. All I did was remove the turbo, send the guts to Ron for balancing and a new turbine wheel, installed the ported housing and new wastegate actuator (I think that's the name of it that bolts to the turbo housing) and reinstalled the turbo. I looked things over a few times and everything appears to be hooked up right.

Confused.... I like the way the turbo sounds but I'm not convinced everything is working right.

the only real way to know for sure if it is right is to have a boost gauge hooked up.

Easy diagnosis is to check the tube going to the MAP sensor make sure you didn't bump it loose or crack it when working on the turbo.

Make sure that the exhaust flange on the back of the turbo is seated well as well as the manifold ends of the up pipes.

Double check your valve cover gaskets and make sure that they still have a good connection and that you didn't accidentally lean down on one and damage the connection so you're not getting full injector actuation causing low power.

probably not your problem, but checking is free..... check the wastegate actuator adjustment, make certain it isnt holding it open when it should be completely closed.

I was reading the Banks installation instructions for their Big head actuator and they say to pre-load the arm before installing. I didn't do this on mine, could that be the problem? I better find Ron's number again and see if I can get any info out of him on that part of it.

Thanks!

All that stuff checks out BJS.

Zookie, that got my attention. I checked a few other websites from companies that provide wastegate actuators and a few that do have instructions say to "pre-load" the actuator when hooking it up. I did not do that, there was absolutely no instructions in the kit I got so I just screwed out the end on the actuator until it went over the tit and that's where I left it. I called Ron's and he was very brief and said (yep) when I asked if it had to be pre-loaded so I guess I'll play with that a little bit, not real sure exactly where it should be set???? Next time I'll choose a company with a little better customer service.

Another problem I have is that the EBPV valve is not working, been cold here lately and it really takes forever for the truck to warm up without it. Everything I can find appears to be hooked up right???:dunno
