I say this at work all the time:
The oil companies have done a fantastic job of pounding that in our heads over the years, 3mo. / 3,000 miles 3mo. / 3,000 miles 3mo. / 3,000 miles..

well what are they in the business of doing?
Selling oil.

Similarly, new and newer cars & trucks with these oil life monitors have people going 7,500 - 10,000 or even 12,000 miles between changes.. and these monitors don't monitor a dam thing.. it's a computer algorithm that calculates fuel used, average speed, average temperature, number of times the owner farted in the seat, etc..

what are car companies in the business of doing?
Selling cars..

somewhere in between, there is what the oil change interval really should be...

But I'll say there the same thing here I tell my customers..
Oil is cheap compared to an engine.
