it finally happened. i have to sell my truck due to diesel fuel prices. this sucks to say the least. everything on the truck will stay on it as im going to sell through private party. the truck runs great. the rebuilt trans is very strong. it gets 17 to 19 mpg city or hwy driving. i just replaced the front locking hubs with warn premium plus hubs. it has 276,546 on the odometer. engine and trans very strong. i starte3d driving this truck in 2002 with 150,00 on it. i will go from a F-250 SD 7.3l to a 2008 ranger.

Do you still owe on the PSD??

If you're gonna buy a brand new Ranger, is the car payment and less cost of gas gonna be better than no payment and the slightly higher cost of diesel??

The reason I ask is this, I have been debating the same as you, but I finally can see that I would loose out if I sold my truck for a smaller one and a payment.

I will have mine paid off next Feb. of 2009, so I am gonna hang in there.

the ADVERTISED mpg of the ranger is only 21/26 (city/hway) !

Im not sure ive EVER bought a car/truck or motorcycle that EVER
obtained the as high an mpg as the mfg rated ESTIMATES !

you can BET that that rangers 21/26 is based on their smallest
engine (2.3l I4) manual tranny (non 4x4) regular cab version...at BEST !

you wanna make a diff in your fuel bill then find a vw tdi <45+ mpg>

to prevent having to add another payment,
I pulled some money out of my 401K and paid cash for the Beetle.. which worked out good for all because she grenaded the engine on the F150...

so we're stuck still in the same boat..

But no, it's silly as hell to take on another payment right now.
Gas-sippers are going at a premium right now (figure that), so if you're thinking of doing this now, you're about six months to late.

What the stinkin' man would do, is wait untill the new generation mini-diesels are in the dealerships, and then see what you can pay cash for as far as a trade in..

no my truck is paid off. it is starting to nickel and dime us on little things. i use my SD as a family business work truck, we have a 08 ranger allready with about 8,000 on it. the company will flip the bill. my father/boss is complaining about his fuel bill. he would rather get 21mpg paying 87 octane instead of 18 mpg paying diesel. i understand his delima but i really love this truck

yeah the ranger is a 2.3l auto extended cab. will have to scale down on the audio system in this one.

I have a 2002 ranger along with my psd f-250, and with some reasonable driving I tend to get 20 to 21 mpg in a combination type of driving (city &highway).

my dad has a 07 avalanche (chevy nut) and he is going to get cobalt once i get into the ranger. but we did the math and just by buying a 17,000 vehicle the payment and gas bill will be around his avalanche payment alone.

so TWO maybe THREE extra miles per gallon...sure it adds up...BUT itll
take forEVER to see any kinda ROI !

consider how long that diesel has lasted and then consider how long
you HOPE the ranger will last....it just makes your ROI all that much
more impossilbe to obtain.

id be completely SHOCKED if the "nickle & diming" repairs that youre
having to perform on the SD are even remotely close to the payment
of a new ranger <month on month>
