I just came back from Walmart, and found the Fram air filter was $63 and they did not stock the Motorcraft air or oil filter for the 6.0 in our walmart store.
At $240 the K&N filter looks pretty good. After four changes of the fram filter, (60,000 miles) the K&N would start paying for itself. What are most of you using for your air and oil filters? I like the quality of the Motorcraft oil filter, but as of now, have not found a source, except Ford. Afer reading some of the previous posts, I have read that the stock 2006 air filter plumbing is a good one, and need not be changed to an aftermarket unit. Changing to the K&N filter would make it even better.

What are your thoughts on this?

Thanks

I don't want to sound like I am knocking your choice, but I had a K&N filter in my 1993 diesel pickup and I was less than impressed with the filtering materail. A better choice would be an Intake system from AFE (advanced flow engineering). Several of our sponsors carry them.

I dont think I paid near that much for my K&N... what year is your truck??

I know for that much you could get a Tymar, which I hear is pretty good.

My truck was born April 2006. The price of $240.99 was from discount parts.
I will check into the Tymar and AFE filter. I appreciate all your input.

I would [and did] steer clear of K+N for the 6.0 application. I went with Air Raid after reading some test reports. The K+N apparently lets thru more particles of dust, and the oil can foul up intake track. But there are as many opinions as air filters, it seems. I looked at several, and to me the air raid or AFE made the most sense for the prices they ask.

More research information

I just talked with AFE, K&N, and Air Raid. Air Raid seems to have the best price for similar products. Air Raid said that their system would increase torque by 44 foot pounds. I had heard that Ford changed the intake system on the 06 trucks. Air Raid did not think so. I called our local Ford dealer, and parts department said that yes Ford did change the air intake system on the 06. Maybe this is why we have been getting such good fuel mileage. 18+ mpg.
So when It is time to replace the air filter, I am just going to replace the cartridge and not the entire system.

Air Raid said that their system would also gain you about two mpg over stock system. I asked them what year did they do this test. He did not know. If it was done comparing their system to an 03 or 04 Ford system, the increase torque would not be the same with the new 06 Ford system. If the new 06 Ford system is equal to the Air Raid system, that explains the 18 +mpg average I am getting.

I still use the cartridge, changed the first one last weekend ,it had 18k plus on it
full of dead BUGS and clechce sand, shook most of it out, these things are supposed to go 50k miles between changes, my intake hoses were clean and dry so it must be working.
i priced em all over town between 60-67 $$$$
bought one online because I got terrific deal when i ordered my other filters for the bypass, buy in bulk so to speak...
i had a kn filter on the 02, never had issues with it not sealing, but it did get dirty fast, i think because she was run hard :D :burnit
