died..
cranks, no fire...
no "wait to start" light
no CEL
no communication with scan tool (MODIS - happened to have it with me)
fuses in underhood PDC all good (swapped out 1 at a time in the pouring rain)
swapped out fuel pump enable and IDM relays
heard a "BZZZZZZZZZZT" through the CB, and CEL came on before it quit..

scan tool does communicate with Air Bag Module, GEM Module and ABS controller..

I'm thinking ever-infamous IDM...
any other SWAGs?

are you sure that Zuul is still in the containment chamber? you did not cross the streams did you? no extraneous slime anywhere?

Don't recall which fuse it is, but supposedly there is one under the dash that powers both the PCM and the fuel filter bowl heater element. If that heater element shorts out & fries the fuse, it kills the PCM also.

The fix was to unplug the connector for the fuel filter bowl heater element and relace the fuse.

THANK YOU
that's the one I was looking for last night..
only I was in the underhood PDC..

well, anyway, IDM had standing water in it (p!$$ poor spot to put it if you ask me)..

#6 injector is open on the high side..

I smelled something electrical under the hood while pulling the valve cover, I bet the fuel bowl heater is it...

batteries passed the last time I tested them, back in January.. but they're four years old now, and I put both of them on the charger yesterday... I'll test them again today..

Damn, this truck LOVES to spend my money :rant

they are just like boats aren't they?

which is why I don't have a boat..

anyway...

It is ALIVE

IDM and #6 injector
Reman IDM courtesy of A1Cardone and reman injector courtesy of Motorcraft.

IDM was obviously fried, showed short to ground on pin 80

Injector ohmed open on the high side

when I was under the valve cover, I noticed that the #4 injector is a reman also..

the IDM had an inch of water in it.. when I pulled the harness off, if gooshed out an honest cup of water... let it dry overnight, then packed the connector with dielectric compound when I put it back together...

everything else went pretty good.

Oh, and the supposed 30amp fuse in the dash fusepanel was a 15amp... which did, in fact, restore the CEL and Wait To Start light... and communication with MODIS... cleared all the codes, and ran it down the street...
