loud bang/thud ?

hey Every one , I have noticed that the last 3 or so times I have put my 97 f250 5spd in to 4x4 I hear a loud bang or a thud ? I get out , lock the Hubs , put shifter into 4x4 , put truck into 1st let out clutch & it makes a loud bang & then it's fine , 4 wheel works . Does any one have any suggestions to whAt this might be ? any advice would be

Probably the transfer case going into 4 wheel drive. They can make quite a noise. Mine is very quite. Lock your hubs first and then try the lever.

Does it do it if you pull the lever into 4H while rolling?
