Here is the link that explains that on the Toyota/Lexus vehicles, it does work to *fool* the computer into thinking the sensors are all working and operational.

it will depend on the make, model & year....not every toyota will work
this way and it seems the manufactures (for what ever reason) are
goin away from the "pressure only" direct measurement devices.

i can see SOME reason for going to the indirect (motion required)
TPMS devices but i dont know why theyd mix methods w/in an automotive
mfg brand.

FORD is consistently using the INDIRECT TMPS devices...motion
needs to be detected (by the abs ring) before tire pressure measurement
readings will occur (perhaps people were using the direct devices
as a way to "air" their tires at the service station)

fwiw the indirect devices come in both the valve stem AND band
type....so its not like you can look at the device and "know" which
type it is.

ALL of this TPMS crap is a band-aide....people didnt like the "truck like"
ride of the explorer so they reduced the tire pressure to soften
the ride...which made the tires run hot...and produced ILL handling...
when the tire blew (from over heat & under inflation) lack of TRAINING
and panic by some drivers caused crashes & deaths.

simple as that !

a tire monitoring device that does NOT alert until 25% loss in pressure
is NOT gonna solve any problems (it just makes congressmen feel better),
there is not replacement for BASIC vehicle maintenance and GOOD
drivers education/training !
