Hi guys here is my new rig...:burnit

2006 250 SD XLT chrome package

I have always maintained my stuff... never had a Diesel...

what is the best oil to run in it... interval changes?

fuel filter changes?

someone told me to let the truck idle down for a while after long trips to prevent the turbo from cooking the bearings or something like that... is that true?

Welcome aboard, TCG!!:welcome
I run Rotella and change every 5k. Recently switched to synthetic since I have over 100k miles on mine. They say you can increase the interval with synthetic, but I'm not sure if I will, yet.
I change my filter twice a year (about every 10k), but more frequently as I burn bio when I can. Running bio-diesel will break up the diesel build up (crap) and clog a filter pretty fast. But, the truck likes it and runs a little smoother when using it.

The cool down process (I've heard) applies if you have been towing a lot and/or making some long runs. If you will invest in some after market gauges (stock ones suck), you will get some accurate readings. If your truck is running hot the guages (EGT) will tell you when it's safe to shut down.
I'm sure some of the other, more mechanical guys will be around shortly to give you more detailed answers. This is a great place to ask questions and make friends!!:sweet

P.S. Great looking truck!!

oh yeah,

Oh yeah, You come to the right place all right, just don't let any of these dudes know that you have any money because they will be standing in line to help you spend it.
So first off lets get a sat of good gages for the truck. Then let's get a good 4 in MBRP or Silverline Exhaust Systems . turbo back. 4 in lift kit and some bigger tires. Oh. I am sorry I forgot you are new here. . :welcome :welcome and also tell us where you are from.

You'll want Pyro, Boost and Tranny (if you are towing).
Here are two of our sponsors who can get you setup with a good set of gauges. I haven't gone there, but they will be one of my next mods. I need 'em!!:thumbs

ITP Diesel

DPPI

Your stock tranny gauge is notorious for not being very accurate.

Welcome cable guy!

I dont know how well the stock boost gauge works. Its a new stock item and I havent seen it work yet so you may be able to skip it. If you are going to pull anything with that new rig its a good idea to have a pyro to keep track of the egt's and an acurate tranny temp guage. The factory gauges are really inefective as they only tell you that you are having a problem after it happens. With aftermarket gauges installed you wil be able to see whats going on with your engine in real time and be able to prevent any damage before it happens.

the boost guage might be ok...its mostly for personal enjoyment
and provides only a small amount of trouble shooting.

your factory trans in dash guage is nothing more than an idiot light
w/ a pointer on it...(by the time it moves the damage is done).

heres how the factory trans guage works -> LINK

and aftermarket EGT & Trans guage are the 1st mods most make.....
and easily the number one recommendation.

another worth while mod are reverse lights of SOME kind under
the rear bumper...very helpful when backing up (since the factory
reverse lights are basically worthless).

gauges

is the tranny temp gauge a mechanical setup or electrical with a sensor, does the sensor get installed in the pan or tranny body? drilling the pan required?

same questions for the EGT... manifold or O2 style on gas engines?

any pics?
