hey guys, just signed up for the forum and lookin into buy an f250 diesel..

couple questions...

does anyone have a super cab with a car seat in in? how does it fit and do you have any photos? (my concern is i may need a crew cab)

is there much of a difference between the 7.3 motor and the 6.0 motor?

how well does the truck (motor, turbo, trans, rear, etc) handle the performance programmers?

are there any specific common issues to check with these diesels or truck in general?

and does anyone know any dealers in the jersey / philly area what deals with a lot of these trucks?

how many miles it too many (for a specific price)?

thanks in advance, i hope to learn a lot.

I have a supercab with the 6.0. I also have a five year old that uses a booster seat. I can tell you that the booster seat fits perfectly but i do not think that a full carseat would fit that well(My wife and I are both tall and like to sit with the seats far back). Having said that, most people that I have spoken to that have bought crewcabs after owning extended(super) cabs have sworn that they would never buy a supercab again. I love my supercab but I think if I were to do it again, I would probably by a crew cab. As for the 6.0 vs 7.3, I would reccommend to you to find the cleanest, lowest mileage possible within your budget regardless of the motor. Treated well I think either motor will do you fine although I am sure that some people would tell you to shy away from the early '03 6.0s. Hope my humble opinion helps your decision. You made the right choice by shopping for a FORD!!!:sweet GOOD LUCK!

Welcome to SDD!

Both the 6.0 and 7.3 are good engines. The 6.0 gets a lot of bad press, if you are going to buy a used 6.0 you need to do an OASIS report on it to find out if it was a problem child or not. The 7.3 is an extremely good unit. Find an 02 or 03 with low miles and you will love it.

You can expect 15-18 mpg out of the PSD, with a few mods and reasonable driving practices those numbers can and will go up.

what would the basic mods be?

chip? exhaust? intake?

my last turbo car was a vw, when i chipped it and it was hot out i experienced what the vw guys called "heat soak" and lots a solid amount of power with the stock intercooler...

does the same happen with the psd motors?

:welcome1 to the site.

I had a 93' Supercab with three carseats in the back seat. The kids were one, three and four. I did this for a couple of years and then upgraded to my current Crewcab truck. I can say that the Crewcab is a little handier but the super cab did work. One advantage was that the kids were up closer to the front seat so that Mom didn't have to climb back so far to take care of them. Only real disadvantage was getting the middle one in and out.
