Howdy
I'm new to this forum
I own a 1994 ford 7.3 liter diesel
I've been having some issues with starting my van
both of my batteries are fully charged, but it will hardly turn the engine over
this is what I've tried so far

I just installed a new starter
cleaned all conections
replaced one ground cable
used jumper cables to bypass all the cables to test for bad cables
both batteries read 12.5 volts and it reads the same at the starter
but the meter on the dash only reads 8 volts
I'm at the end of my rope and don't know what to do
please help

Pull the batteries and get them load tested at your favorite auto parts store.

Welcome to SDD Clint. Tbar is correct. Get the batteries LOAD tested. They go bad about every two years or so and need to be replaced. Replace them in pairs ONLY as this system is one battery in tow places.

thanks for the help
but I just replaced one battery about a month or so ago, and had them both tested
and they both were fine
one of the batteries is the original
but it had more cranking amps than it was suposed to

If I ever get the thing started I'll bring it over to the parts store and have them run another test on them

or I'll just pull the batteries

it will turn over fast if I hook up two cars to it and let it sit for a while, but then it will only turn over fast for about 15 seconds
so it would make sence that the batteries are bad
right?
thanks for the help

These trucks take a lot of cranking amps to spin them fast enough to start. You said that they spin fast with a car hooked up? No start? Fuel Injector Pump maybe gone. They are relatively inexpensive to have rebuilt.

It will eventually start
and when it's runninng it runs strong
when I restart when the engine is warm it will start right up
would a bad IP make starting hard, and work fine when running?
I just replaced the fuel pump also, thinking this was the problem
and istalled a clear line right before injection pump and left it in over night adn no fuel has drained back, and I was also getting no air bubbles when running the engine.

I'm going to yank the batteries out and have them tested just to make sure
one of them should still be under warranty
thanks for the help
I'll let you guys know how it goes

The symptoms of a bad injector pump are just the opposite, starts great when cold but it is hard to impossible to start when hot. You have some other problem. Check out the batteries first. They should never be replaced one at a time. Only pairs.
