Maybe a "DUH" but worth Posting ?

While mucking out my shed.. found a gallon jug of Rotella T, 5-40, with 2 qts. in it. Hated to just pitch it out, cuz I thought I might be able to use it in my Lawnmower.. or the like.. so I called the Shell.. 1-800 #. The Tech Rep said:

If yer not REAL sure how old it is.. Don't Use It. And Fer Sure Don't Use It.. if it's over 48 months.. since date of purchase. Holds true for Dino & Syn.

Has ALL to do with the breakdown of the additives= API/ASE/ specs.

Soo.. When in doubt (?) Don't ?

:dunno

Joe

Smelled kinda Funky too.. as compared to the fresh stuff I have on hand.

oil does not go bad if keep in a dry place ,the only thing that will make oil go bad is condensation in side the drum or container ,its not like fuel
