OK, Single Shots, Here We Go!!!!

I've got my stage 1 single shots from Bean's. I've got a new PCM from DP-Tuner with a single shot/ 80hp econo tune on it. And I've got new valve cover gaskets, UVC harnesses, UVC harness clips and new glow plugs.

I've been home from work for a little over an hour now, so the beast should be cooled off enough so I can work on it without getting scalded on anything.

Let the games begin.

UPDATE #1

I had about an hour and a half to work on things before heading out for fish fry with the Mrs and daughter #1.

It dark and raining out, so I might as well share the fun with everybody.

I decided to tackle the passenger side valve cover first since that's the one buried under everything and was obviously the bigger PITA of the two. A couple of the valve cover bolts on the bottom row towards the back were a real pain. Removing the oil filler tube, oil dipstick & MAP sensor from its mount gave me just enough room to get the valve cover out. I then pulled the gasket and the wiring harness out too. So the passenger side is opened up and ready for for surgery. The other side should go a lot quicker.

Tomorrow should be real interesting.

UPDATE #2, Break time

It's going pretty good. So far I'd have to say the worst part was trying to get that ******* passenger side valve cover off.

All the old injectors came out with the copper washers attached and all the old glow plugs came out intact without leaving any busted off tips in the heads.

As of right now, new injectors are in and hold-down bolts are torqued. I kind of followed Mike's (95 Stroker) lead on the syringe thing to suck the oil out of the cylinders, but with "refinements". I took a little brake bleeding container, hooked it up to my vacume pump and sucked the oil out with that.

After I put the new injectors in and before I installed my new glow plugs in, I "bump" cranked the engine a few times and then cranked it for about 10 seconds at a time to make sure all the oil is out of the cylinders. Now I have to look again to see what the torque numbers are for the glow plugs and tighten them down.

Oh, and for what it's worth, the driver's side UVC harness connector was partially disconnected when I pulled the driver's side valve cover off. I'm glad I got some of those UVC connector clips for this project. Now I just gotta figure out how they go on.

Break's over, back to work.

I took a little brake bleeding container, hooked it up to my vacume pump and sucked the oil out with that.

All I had was the brake bleeder jar. The vacume pump was the heavy duty unit that came with my BD exhaust brake. It replaced the little OEM electric vacume pump that was mounted on the passenger side fenderwell. I just pulled a vacume hose off the reservoir and put the one on from my home-brewed oil sucker upper.

Well, I think I'm done for the day. The next thing to do is put the valve covers back on, and I decided to put some paint on 'em. I'm going to let them dry overnight.
