You heard me.
As of Monday, I'm going out of the powerstroke business.
$75 oil changes.
$3.70/gallon fuel
12 mpg at best (off a full 1.5mpg due to "winter" blend)
$180./apiece tires
this is ridiculous. Especially the fuel. :rant

Wife says she's tired of the Ol' Blue pickup, wants a new car.
and I concurr, and we'll start looking next week.

so I'm thinking VW Jetta... Subaru Legacy... :stir
the only Ford car I'd consider is a Crown Vic... and I don't think I'm gonna get all that far ahead...

Mighty Whitey is paid off in February... so I could swing an additional car payment for a few months... which I'm sure would be more than offset by the fuel savings... :sweet

this don't look like it's going to get any better any time soon...
and it's REALLY beginning to cut into my beer-drinkin fund-age... :dizzy

I can't afford to buy a new car or truck, and at the same time I can't afford NOT to buy something else.
because home-biscuit's wallet is mighty light, nowadays...

that's about what we get out of the Outback that Kid #2 drives.
that's acceptable, as my last Taurus was only good for 26...

TDI? Oh that'd rule.
every one of those I see at a fuel station says 36+

Now if you sell the PSD, you better not high-tale it out of SDD JL.

You still have a home here JL.

Noooooooo... not gonna sell it, just replace it as a regularly used vehicle.
I gotta haul the horses with something (200 miles/month vs 200 miles/week)

we played musical cars for a while this summer; Bri drove the SD, wife drove Bri's truck (01 1/2 ton GMC she friggin ' STOLE from the dealer) and I drove Ol' Blue. It worked pretty good for everyone untill the bed of the SD got a big crease in it at the fairgrounds, then no one wanted to drive the SD (it's too BIG)...

I'm just tired of it's fuel habit... bio-refiner shut down cause soybeans went clean outta sight... $100 bucks every 8 days... hell, I can ride the bus for a month PLUS eight days for $100....

My TDI got 46 on the windy hill sup here and I managed 52 going to the Bay and that was not babying it at all. I have been seen quite a few of them for sale for some reason.

Tires are ridiculous for everything, just put new rubber on the Pilot and they were $100/each and that was after a lot of looking.

I use the 92 Accord for general driving, gets ~28mpg and has 266k miles so it does not owe me anything. Tires are still expensive though.

Ford's new Taurus X looks interesting probably not great mileage but interesting. I do not like their new grills.

TDI!
TDI!
TDI!

if you are not concerned about looks, look for a LATE model mk3 car, iirc, 1998 or 1999 it will have the ALH motor. its the injection pump motor. the mk3's will be CHEAP.

1995.-2004 will have the ALH motor too (like roy's). they are great, but they have their quirk's (timing belt changes, etc...)

2004.5+ will have the PD motor with the unit injectors. i have this one now. lots of power, better fuel economy if you have a heavy foot.

figure 6-10k minumum. maybe even into the teens.

bugs have lots of room, jetta's have a trunk, golf's don't, but have the same interior room.

i know guys who have switched from tdi's to suby's and they are not as happy as they thought they would be.
