Hay guys has anybody checked out any of the pc bassed scanners? I have been looking at them but can't make up my mind on which one to get. Any advice will be appreciated.
any scanner "on" a computer is either
a) just a broadcast of a real scanner piped over the internet, or
b) software that comes with a real scanner that reads it's output and shows it on the screen + plays the audio ... which imo the only benefit is being able to program in custom channels and such more easily
... but nothing beats a real scanner. Most of the technology is in the electronics ... and pcs don't have that kind of hardware so for most of it they are useless
If you mean a computer based scan tool to read diagnostic trouble codes and data, autoenginuity has an excellent PC based tool and software package that works really well especially for Fords. I believe their website is AutoEnginuity® - OBD2 Scan Tool - Professional PC and PDA Diagnostics. Gil
I have an Autoenginuity , PC based scanner and it works great. It is NOT connected to the internet and does not pipe music or any such garbage. It has a hardware interface to the trucks computer and a data link and reads all sorts of GOOD information. AutoEnginuity® - OBD2 Scan Tool - Professional PC and PDA Diagnostics but they are not cheap.
