Ok thanks. I was just checkin, cause I would hate to get stranded down here, trying to find someone with enough juice to jump my truck. Not too many people here have diesels or other large engines. Good news is I got one week left then I am goin home and won't have to worry about it anymore. Thanks

Went out today and started the truck. It cranked a little sluggish. It has been sitting since monday afternoon. The temps here were about 25f. I let the glow plugs cycle all the way through and then cranked it, it started it was just a slow crank. While running around town, having to shut it off, and start it up a couple of times, it started like it was 90f outside. I don't know???
Yup, your engine was cold, the oil was cold, the batteries were cold, and it took a lot more effort to get that heavier than normal oil to get moving around the crankcase. When the engine and the oil got warm, everything was normal again. If you can get a pan heater to go along with the block heater that is already on your truck (you may or may not have a heater cord, depending on the model year of your truck) you can keep the engine toasty.

Do you think I should go with a lighter weight oil in the winter. I have an oil change coming up real quick and was just curious. I believe mine right now is 15w40.

Probably wouldn't hurt, but then again check what the minimum viscosity level is for your 7.3. I would think a 10W30 would be better, but I'm not familiar with the specs on that motor like the 7.3 veterans on this forum are.

Got Diesel,

Try the antistatic strap. Do know if you're old enough but our folks just to hand a metal chain to drain the static charge. I bought minie from http://www.mizter.com. Works great man.

During the winter many folks up North use Shell Rotella 5W-40 SYNTHETIC or Schaeffer's 9000 5w-40. Oil analysis shows these two listed above and Chevron DELO 400 are awesome choices for the 7.3L engine.

How do you like Tony's Chip by the way?
