Another thought:
Take a good look at the up-pipes going from the exhaust manifold to the baby's butt behind the turbo. Look for any signs of soot streaks on the pipes that may indicate a leaking/blown donut seal. Or worse yet, signs where maybe an up-pipe is cracked and blowing hot exhaust on the firewall area.

Dont see the elbow into the drivers valve cover or intake

It's more or less Under the intake tube assembly. It comes up, out of the crank case vent, on the D-side valve cover, 90's forward, then 90's up into the bottom the plastic part of the intake assembly. It's about the size of a heater hose ?
