hey all-

i can not find that darned keylock for the spare tire winch.

i am told if i break off the plastic housing, i will expose a recess for the winch rod to enter.

can anyone confirm? RoyBoy? BigJoe?

i tried our resident tire and wheel guru but he is MIA.

thanks

I know on mine, the long pole that slides thru the bumper to the winch, looks like a
big flat-head screwdriver. It just slides right in. No "keylock" per say.

i got it figured out finally.

what ford seems to do is use a plastic cover that snaps over and around the female socket. that socket is what you see Bama.

that plastic cover holds a keylock that fits into the recess. it is basically a cover that holds the key from falling out.

the key is very much like a wheel lock. without that key, you can not lower the spare.

Regrets on the slow reply Dennis :dunno

I've managed to keep track of my Socket/Key thingy.. so no help there.. but: I Did.. grind down an old 3/8 exstention and JB Welded it to the Key thingy.. MUCH easier to use two 12", 3/8 exstentions.. and a Ratchet to Lower & Raise the spare... with IT.. rather than the Flimsy thing(s) Ford sent along:dunno

the local goodyear boys cut it off for me when i asked them to rotate the spare into the tire rotation.

i am not sure i ever got the special key when i got the truck. 3 menard special cable clamps and a chunk of bar stock am i am good to go.

big joe- i like your idea. only, i wonder if i would be able to find the socket extensions when i need them on a dark and stormy night. LOL

i have greater peace of mind knowing that its with me on long trips.
