I noticed this about 2 weeks ago. Truck runs fine just just when sitting at a stop light or in park idle has a tendency to surge a little. Not all of the time though but it does seem like it is getting more frequent. Also when I change my fuel filter last weekend i noticed that there is some gunk build up at the bottom of the fuel filter housing. Do I need to remove the housing to cleani it? If so is fairly easy to do? Thanks guys. Any info greatly appreciated.

If you are getting a surge at idle you might be starting to have o-ring leakage on the IPR valve. As for the gunk in the bottom of your fuel bowl, drain the bowl and use a rag or towel to swab out the cannister.

It should be just below the filter resevoir. There are two red (i I think) wires going to it. I will have a large 1'-1 1/4nut on it . Injection Pressure Regulator

What and where is the IPR Valve. I am still not familiar with all of these abbreviations. Some one needs to make a chart.

Look here for a procedure on cleaning and re- oringing the valve.

Wouldn't that throw a code (1211, 1212, 1280, 1281, 1282, 1283 or 1284)?

not always.it may leak but it may also still hold enough pressure to keep it within specs.there is a certain margin of error that the pcm allows.

also the solenoid on the IPR may be loose and wiggleing around.
