I have a 2000 F-450, and the steering has become rather loose as of late. I have adjusted the steering gear three times now, but it never seems to last more than 1000 miles before going sloppy again. The truck has well over 150k on it, so I am not totally suprised that it has worn out, however, even when it was new, the steering has never been "precise"
My question is, has anyone tried to replace the steering gear on a 99-04 with one from an 05+ superduty? From the comments that I read on here and Oilburners, the 05+ superduties have much better steering response.
I know that the rest of the front end is in good shape as it was all replaced and aligned 5,000 miles ago.
Normally I used to do this research on my own, but I now live in the UK, and there aren't many trucks like ours that I can compare parts with.
Any help with this is greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
