torqconverter question

i am going have to replace my torqconveter asap:cussing: , is there amy recomindations other than a ford replacement that are better,

man theres LOTS of options....brians (BTS) comes to mind as
a WELL refered to unit...but as i understand it the tranny needs
some modifications so that it will stand up to the BTS converter.

suncoast is another one thats spoken highly of.

suncoast offers a decent converter, i wasnt all to crazy bout mine till i towed my 30' enclosed to florida and back, it was reallll nice, little lazy round town from a stop, but up top she rolls, i've also heard nice stuff about the bts guys.

hey

the way i know its going out is when at a idle or out it has a rattling sound, while driving the sound comes and goes, latly the sound isnt there untill the motor is revd up high and when the gas pedel is let off and the the engine idles down quick you can hear it again and theres some( more than norm ) metal that comes out in the pan. plus i had a trans specialist < my good friend look at it and confirm it. also i check top to bottom for loose bolts and non were found.:rant

ATS! it is expensive, but with the 2 mpg increase for city driving it has payed for itself over and over. it is very low stall, and is AWESOME at very low rpms, or launching from a stop with a huge load. TC lock up is excellent with this converter because instead of using a single clutch plate like most stock and aftermarket units, they have a 5 plate setup capable of holding something like 4000ft/lbs (this is what they advertise, so take that as far as you like)

while i had the torque converter/trans. out, i also did an ATS pump upgrade, wich i would highly recomend as well. it makes the pump perform better, and they instruct you to drill a .0125"? (really tiny) hole in the pump body to supply oil pressure to places in the trans that didnt get forced lubrication from the factory design. shifts are more firm, but not harsh with a stock valve body.

my TC went at around 90,000 miles, and i now have 175k on the original trans. when i change the fluid, its not burnt, and there isnt a lot of clutch material like i would get when it still had the factory setup.

well now the bad news the whole tranny locked up on me , the big bad boys toy is down and out untill i get a new trans, ford says they have a stock replacement for 1800 not installed, is there any better recomindations??????:doh:
