towing and smelling atf

it has been stupid hot out here for a while now. I was towing my normal 8500-9000 lb load this weekend and I could have sworn after long uphill climbs it smells like boiling ATF.... but I gots the 6 spd zf.

Any ideas? This normal?

The zf tranny uses ATF for oil. Yes it is normal.

Run synthetic in your tranny it'll drop your temps considerably and you won't be smellin the boiling fluid anymore.
