I own a 2002 Chevy Duramax 4x4 ext cab 60,000 miles on her and was thinking of trying a new Ford with the 6 liter diesel engine. It is a 4 door 4x4 short box, auto. 3.73, 2500 and was wondering what kind of mileage the Fords are getting towing and empty. I am only thinking about doing this because my Duramax sucks when towing my 8,000 lb. 5 th wheel. I am getting between 10 and 12 mpg no wind ,flat land, I have tried 60 mph up to 75 mph and it still sucks. How are the Fords? I took both the Ford and a couple of Dodges for a cruise today and must say I perfered the Ford. Thanks.

I dunno about the 6.0's but I have a 7.3 and I got 11 mpg towing 55-70 with a 9000 lb trailer behind going up the mountains. unloaded I have seen 16-17.

I have a similar rig to the one you are looking at. Empty, 17-18 mpg average combined city/highway. Towing my 5000# boat, 14 mpg highway. I use Tow Haul mode when towing. Very happy with it.

Looks Good

Thanks for the replies, By what I have been reading it is looking like the 6 liter gets pretty good mileage towing, My Duramax sucks fuel even with my 2,000 lb boat/ trailer and excessories ,this is a 16.5 ft boat with a travel cover and everthing I just got 13.5 mpg at about 60 mph average, no hills.

With my 2006 F350 , 373 gears and 20" tires with a 6liter I came get 18.1 mpg towing my tamdem car trailer, at 75mph but with a 9,000lb load it drops to about 15mpg.

i am surprised you not getting 30 towing, once up to speed you can let off the throttle and use all that momentum to coast :D

Yeah, If it was all down hill, I'm sure I could
Problem is you would be doing about 90 mile an hour after while:eek:

You should probably check your fuel filter on the Duramax. Mine usually gets around 12-14 depending on the how much weight I'm towing, and 18-19 empty mixed city/highway. Mine is a 2002 3500 regular cab 4x4 LB7 with the 6 speed.
