Not the street walking tranny.... the one under my truck. SLOW , HARSH reverse engagement. Five percent of the time it works fine. Sixty percent of the time five to ten second delay, then harsh reverse. Thirty five percent of the time immediate reverse engagement but harsh. Occasionally, harsh drive engagement...any ideas? Only 46K miles, no real abuse, no tuner, no mods. Thanks for any help.

How's the fluid? When is the last time it was serviced? It sounds to me like you might have a problem with one of the valve bodies causing slow fluid transfer. How does it shift?

Only about 15K on fresh fluid and both filters, once I put it in drive it works fine, just reverse engagement is erratic and harsh. Thanks for the help.

So.. Took it to the dealer on monday. They tore it apart (after trying to get me to buy a rebuilt for 4K.) and found a broken snap ring on the reverse gear. I looked up the TSBs and found 05B27,which says; when used as a snow plow, freqient forward/reverse shifts will cause snap ring failure, replace snap ring and any damaged part REGARDLESS of mileage. This TSB expired in Sept of 06. My truck only has 46K miles on it. Am I out of line thinking that Ford should pay for the repair?

I don't think that Ford should be able to post a TSB repair bulletin (basicly a recall) and then be able to put a expiry date on it. After all it is a problem with their product and really has nothing to do with driver error or usage. I think that Ford should pay for the repair.

Thanks Patrickc, I appreciate the feedback. It seems as though they found a defect, in their own words call it a recall. The thing that burns me is ; I never plowed snow with this truck. I figured when I bought it that I would be able to use reverse. I guess we'll see if they stand behind it or not when I pick it up on monday. Wish me luck.

So, the snapring was a forward drive clutch snapring, nothing ever mentioned in any TSB or recall. The tech said it was just a fluke failure. He had'nt seen any before and said these trannys (torqueshift) are pretty tough. Oh well three grand worth of oh well.
