Transmission Grinding with 4WD low

Hey,

Was doing some cleanup plowing using 4WD low and whipped it in to neutral to shift back to 4WD high. I was dead stopped and went in to reverse and there was a grinding noise for about 5 seconds while I was rolling backwards. I immediatly stopped and shifted in to park. It stopped and seemed to be fine when I went in to drive. Why would it do this?

Sounds like your transfer case had not shifted completely back into 4hi. Sometimes the gears line up just right that the transfercase can't engage properly until one of the gears moves in relation to the other.

Would any damage happen from this or is it just something that happens some times?
