Un-Lifting a 5" Lift Kit

My new Excursion has a 5" lift kit (front springs and ilnks, rear blocks). Could I start pulling out small leaves of the front springs until I get to the height I want?
Kind of like "subtract-a-leaf" instead of add a leaf.

Removing leaves will do more than lower the truck, it will reduce the load carrying capacity of the springs. Just change the springs to keep the load carrying capacity of your truck at a reduced height.
