I checked my codes today to try to solve an airbag problem, most of you 'older ford guys' know that there are no airbag codes. Well, I got a P1249 code which says' Wastegate failed steady state test'. Is this something I should be concerned about? And, what is the 'wastegate' anyway?
I have an 01 SD 250 automatic.

your wastegate is located on the top of your turbo by the firewall. it has a little round bulb on the turbo and rod that comes out of it. the wastegate relieves pressure in the turbo when letting off the throttle. the wastegate holds boost for the turbo. this is a basic idea of what it does. you can get a better idea from other members

Thanks for the info on the wastegate.
But, I still have questions about the P1249 code. Could any member tell me if that is something I should worry about? I would hate to have a small problem turn into a LARGER one.
