Hey Guys, A quick and easy question - I've read where some brave souls are welding their EGR valves (open/closed?) I have an '05 6.0 and an extra EGR Valve - what do I weld? Thanks - Steve-popcorn

The disconnected valve is closed and held closed by a spring, like your valve springs. Having the second EGR makes the truck think that it is working properly. It won't ever soot-up so I would say NO to your question about welding the EGR closed.

your problem (as experianced by others) will be that
the "dummy" valve will operate and when the expected results/changes
from the valve opening and closing are not seen up or down stream (vgt/ebp)
youll STILL get codes.

Actually, I think they are welding their EGR coolers closed to prevent the exhaust from even getting to the valve.sattwood said:

Seems to work fine to me.

Thanks Guys. I tried the "plug the connector into a dummy egr valve, but it still throws the CE light. I guess I'm stuck...thanks!
California trucks will do that...its a CARB/EPA thing...the rest of us
can unplug the EGR and expect the light to stay off (never turn on)...
we'll still get CODES set (like the california trucks) but the CEL / SES
light wont come on.

I would have expected a truck that was custom ordered and shipped to PA to have a pretty middle of the road emmissions attitude. Why the heck they'd have shipped it with CA/CARB code in it makes no sense to me.

I'm new to this and I'm trying to learn as much as I can. I just bought an 06 F-350 cc in july with the 6.0 diesel so I'm trying understand as much as possible. Why do you want to bypass the egr valve? Feel free to reply in depth. Thanks!-popcorn
