devices on infants. I didn't know that.

Someone tried to "Baby Nap" a New Born (GMA this AM) infant from a Hospital.. But they were able to catch the Perp quickly, a few miles away due to an Anti-Theft device being attached to the baby..

MAN... where does it go from here :dizzy:eek:

all hospitals are using RFID tags hidden in the bracelets...

if the child crosses a certain threshold an alarm goes off
& the hospital goes into immediate LOCKDOWN.

cut the bracelet and an alarm is triggered.

w/ RFID you can pinpoint the location of the "bracelet" or tag.

they using the existing wireless infastructure network to monitor
and locate the RFID tags.

certain retailers  have been using this RFID technology
to minimize the the loss from theft of grocery carts from parking lots :sly

I knew the technology had been around in the Retail World for a long time, I just didn't know it was being used at Hospitals.... 'course I don't spend much time (luckily) 'round Hospitals either.

Just caught me by surprise I guess.

They need that security. Whackos steal babies too. I remember when my niece was born. She had to stay in the NICU for 4 months (long story). Well the NICU might be harder to get into than Fort Knox! The "door" was 2" or 3" solid glass that was framed with 6" steel and was probably nuke proof. The door locked by having 3 steel rods go from the vertical wall into the vertical side of the door, and two rods from the top, while along the bottom a 3" lip came up from the floor.

To gain access, you had to be on a list, then be visually seen thru the door and buzzed in. Once in, you passed the nurses station, then to get to the room where mom was staying, required you to walk at least 50' of hall with two turns. This led you to a double door which required you to be buzzed in. From there you went to see mom. From mom to baby in the NICU required another shorter walk and double door authorized passing.

Even if you DID get in there, without GPS you'd get freaking lost and caught!

And no, this hospital was not in some miltarized area of Russia or Germany. It was in Chicago. And no, not one of the seedier areas.

Hospitals take baby safety VERY seriously!
