Which battery is #1 and #2?

By the by, these things really eat batteries like it is going out of style. They just put such a big load on them all the time, what with 140 volts for the IDM, glow plug amps, etc....

Is there any value in using deep cycle starting batteries instead of regular automotive ones?

Not unless you are running an elecrtic wench and drawing down your batteries on some sort of regular basis. I have been running regular Motorcraft batteries on several trucks.
