Why is the power stroke engine so much louder the the cumming and duramax??

From what I understand Ford couldn't get their pilot injection working right so they dropped it out of the programming which increased noise at idle. I am not sure if they have since fixed it or not. This is assuming you are talking about a 6.0L.
Isn't the D-max a High Pressure Common Rail (HPCR) injection? If so my understanding is it gives them much more precision in injection timing and can have multi injection events per power stroke. That is my understanding of the new Dodge Cummins too. Anyone else know?
My 05 6.0 is louder than my 06 6.0! You can barely hear my 01 running. The Dodge is the loudest of them all. Not enough D-MAXs around here to Know what they sound like. I don't know if GM even markets them here! I see one every now and then but they are quite rare!!

Jeeze! I EXPECT and Want it to sound like a Diesel - not like a pathetic gasser (or a Durajap or Kummings - which would be just as bad.)

A friend of mine just bought a 06 dodge 3500 dually. You can barely here the thing running. The Dodges used to be the loudest around.

Lets look at this a minute
My 2002 7.3 was intersting at idle, it didnt exactly sound dieselish, more of a tink and tank sound from some weird harmonics. Couldnt ever hear teh compression, which what you hear in a diesel engine when you hear teh clear crisp rattle its all compression.
and at a drive thru forget it.
now with the 2006 6.0 it has a nice CRISP compression sound, no pilot pre ingnition bumps or tweaks, just straight at you squeezing the bejeezes out of the air, followed bya squirt of fuel, which you can hear with a stethascope
so after All the rambling
I still have a hard time hearing at the drive thru and folks in traffic next to me with a winder down cant hear them selves talk on teh cell phone, so they hang up.
So i am promoting traffic safety by limiting cell phone use in traffic
