Very nice and helpful, thanks Daryl. I need to do this also. I have no idea if they ever serviced the tranny before I bought my rig, plus I want to go synthetic.
Has anyone used Royal Purple synthetic tranny fluid? The Max ATF is a Mercon/DextronIII full synthetic. I can get it easier than Mobile1 atf and have never heard anything bad about it, but just have not seen anyone yet use it for there diesel.

My guess is as long as its not a "dual purpose" oil that works on both Mercon *AND* mercon-V systems, then you should be OK.

So long as it ONLY says Mercon/Dexron-III, then it meets ford specs.

I stopped by autozone tonight and they had TWO quarts of Mobil-1. 4.99 a quart.

Lets direct any further discussion on this into the regualr forums so that good info doesnt get lost in the wrong area.
