Before purchasing our 5th Wheel, I was worried that pulling the 5th wheel at 60 mph (which is 5 mph faster than the speed limit here), would be to low a rpm to run the truck in 6th gear (overdrive). Well, I have not taken it up any hills, but on flat ground at 60 mph, about 1600 rpm, no problem at all. The truck acts like the trailer is not even there. Probably going up some 6% grades, it will need to be run in 5th gear (direct drive). I will know pretty soon, because we need to take a shakedown cruise.
One thing I did find out, the truck does not like starting out in 3rd gear while pulling the 5th wheel.
1st and 3rd are very close.
Once my wife has purchased all the "stuff" she needs, then I want to weigh the combo, with full fuel, water and stuff.
