Yes you have to flip the switch when starting and stoping... Thats why I went with a automatic type like SP diesels TC/Exhaust brake kit.

I have used a BD Torq Lock on my Sub for at least 100,000 miles and it was the best thing I ever added to the truck. Even though the BD was not designed to work with my 1997 OB2 in automatic mode it was still great. I would set the TC to lock manually rather than rely on the Torq Loc to do it automatically. The Torq Loc would then control the converter and disengage the TC at any speed below 33 mph.

My question is does anyone know what is the limitation that precludes spdiesel control from being used on a 2004 trans?

I've the manual switch and an indicator lamp for TC lock up. I mostly use the switch when towing the TT in city areas. Works great. You'll know quickly if you forget to unlock when coming to a stop.:D

I assume if you are using the TC Lock Up in the city you are using it in 3rd. gear.

I had often used mine, on the Sub, in areas that I could hold a steady speed below that which the TC would lock on it's own, country roads and long hill. In some case 2nd gear on steep hills holding a speed of 35 plus.
It is that level of use that I am looking for with the Excursion, 3rd gear and occasional.

The whole idea of Tow Haul with the engine screaming just drives me nuts. Tow Haul must have been designed for a gasser with no guts.

Yep. Third gear but below a speed that the computer will allow for lock up. It is very nice, but I really don't use it often. I'm glad that I did the mod though.
