HELP!!!
I need to find a way to reduce the engine noise in my '99 f250. It is set up with the Banks Powerpack system including the Banks exhaust system. However, it's not the exhaust noise that's the problem... it's the engine noise. Please understand that "I" don't have a problem with it. In fact I rather enjoy it when the turbo kicks in. Unfortunately, "she" doesn't share my enthusiasm. Since we use the truck to pull our 5th wheel camper, my wife and I spend a lot of time on the road. Sooooo, in order to keep peace in our family, I need to find a way to reduce the noise level. Honestly? It is rather loud... almost to the point that we can't even listen to the radio. (Please don't tell her that I said that.) Any suggestions you might have will be appreciated!

What noise are you talkin about? You talkin about "cackle" noise from the injectors? Or is it an exhaust leak or the actual low rumble of the exhaust system/turbo whistle? I do love that noise. Mine isnt too bad with my big stacks and no muffler. What exhaust you got?

It's just overall noise from the engine compartment. Not too bad if we're hauling the camper in o/d... but if I need to shut off the o/d when in hilly or mountaneous terrain the noise really is LOUD to the point that we can forget about listening to the radio.

I. Shim the FPR to 70 psi. There's WIKI/DIY. Quiets down the injectors

2. Do the HPX line Mod, equalizes the oil rail psi. enhances # 1

3. Eliminate the QD Fuel pump inlet fitting. There's a WIKI/DIY. greatly reduces Air in the fuel. enhances 1 & 2.

4. Do the in the tank "Hutch" Mod. There's a WIKI/DIY. Compliments 1, 2 & 3.

When & if you do these mods, as you do them, yul hear your 7.3 Quiet Down..Considerably.

Bio-diesel will quite the engine down a lot. Your air filter can cause more noise if you use a K&N filter. Change it to another filter and stay away from K&N. They don't filter very good either.

WOW JOE! I'm impressed!!! You are way ahead of me in your knowledge of the old 7.3. But I need you to bear with me a little and explain a little more on your modifications. Honesthy? I don't have a clue what your talking about... but I'm am anxious to learn! I went on WIKI to search for the mods you mention and couldn't find anything. (I'm new to WIKE too!) Can you give me the web
page locations?
THANKS!

Thanks Dave. I do have the K&N filter! I'll change it and see what happens. I noticed in your profile that you have a coolant filter. That sounds like a great idea... where did you get it?

The best thing to do is.. familurize yourself with the SDD Search & Wiki/DIY functions, to indentify each of the mods I listed.. then get back to us with specific How To questions on each one.

Not knowing your Mechanic.. capabilities.. it would be Waaaay to long a post to get into How.. you do Each one.

The Fuel Pump inlet fitting delete would be the first. $15.00 worth of fuel hose & 2 band clamps..20 minutes of your time.. Done deal. Less air in the fuel reduces "Cackle".
