Got bit by the batteries yesterday

Drove to work fine yesterday morning. Then when it was time to leave I hit the remote start and nothing happened. Thought I messed up the buttons. Got inside and turned the key and was welcomed with the sound of a clicking starter. Thankfully someone came by and gave me a jump. Especially since I work on base now.

A couple weeks ago I noticed a slow start, but it was one time and I forgot about it. Guess I should have had them checked.

No real question here. Just an FYI to keep up on your batteries.

So it looks like it wasn't the batteries. I went to pull them tonight and both positive cable ends broke. I ordered the replacements I found online. Hopefully they'll be here tomorrow.

Ended up replacing the batteries anyway. Went to start the truck yesterday morning and all I got was the starter clicking. It starts like a champ now.

A company called BG makes pads that go under the terminals that are saturated with a non corrosive chemical. They work very well and are only a few bucks.

I use those pads. You know, this new truck ('17) has leaky stock batteries. Both clamps have corroded and I've had to strip and repaint. I noticed it's coming back after a year. I wonder if they're too full or if the alternator is just charging them too hot? Anybody else see that?

I'll check those out. I picked up the cheap kind while I was at the store along with the terminal sealer.

Thats the problem I had from day 1. There was always corrosion on the terminals. Thats what ended up killing the cable end. The passenger side battery was even bulging a little.

Similar experience- replaced oe batts @ 2 years, Walmart batts at 4 years. Swelling with minor seepage / corrosion.

2014 6.7L with 140k.

starter solenoid going now, so that’s next.
