What I meant was mechanical differences (spring rates / diffs / etc). Like what is the real differences between the two. I'm getting a crew cab, but the bed really is up in the air. I'd prefer a long one. However, if the 250 + 350 share the same engine / trans then why should I pay for a 350?

i think there maybe an extra spring in the F350, but not sure. hadn't really paid much attention to it.

HoustonPSD I'm pretty sure the only difference is the rear blocks

i too believe the blocks are diff.

i just liked the looks better on my F350 that the F250. i also, as others do, tow alot with mine, and the payload is greater and i think the GVWR is also better than the F250.

as far as price, i really dont believe its that much of a diff. i have seen some F250's with the same options as an F350, and the price was almost identical.

The F250 and the F350 single rear wheel are basicly exactly the same trucks. I believe only the F350's have the overload rear leaf springs. They both use the same front and rear ends. I think the F350 also has different rate leaf springs in the front. I own a F350 and debated the same thing when I bought mine.

I looked at the F-250 and the F-350, both short beds. I knew that I would be getting a fiver somewhere down the road. I've got the slider hitch, it works very well. As I recall, on the SRW trucks, the difference in payload between the F-250 and the F-350 is only 500 pounds. Not worth the extra coin in my humble opinion. I'n very happy with my F-250 CC Lariat.

IIRC,

The 250 has 2" blocks, the 350 has 3"

you can get the same spring pack on the 250 as the 350 (ie...my 250 has the overload spring)

the front and rear axles are the same in the 250 and 350, except for the rear axle in a dually 350, obviously. starting 2002 they went to a "true" dana 60 up front

you can figure out the spring packs from the codes on the tag on the door.

Get a 250 crew cab short bed, unless you're concerned with resale value. When I bought my truck, I looked for 350s and 250s. The main factor for me ended up being distance to pick up the truck.

there's a good chance i remembered some of this wrong, but my main point is that when i researched it, I came to the conclusion that they're very much the same truck.

hope this helps
Paul

the only diff is 250 has 2" blocks, 350 has 4" blocks and over load springs and one more leaf. otherwise same truck. either way you go, you will have a great truck!

ah, that's the info I'm looking for. So it seems the 350 is a more "stiffly sprung 250" (obviously DRWs are different). They both must have the same gear ratios I'm assuming too.

Anyone have a tool to break down VINs so I can do a little more research?

plug in the VIN to this VIN DECODER

or carry 'round the 7 decoder guides (2 pages each) listed at the bottom
of that link/page
