well, i dont really know. before i started ordering parts for mine, the service manager gave me the go ahead to see remove a 2008 tailgate off one of their trucks in inventory, to see if it would match up to my bed.

i too could get the pass. side to come off, but i could not get the driver's side off. now it was just me doin it, and i was worried about scratchin the new tailgate up, if i had another set of hands, it may have come right off.

the torsion bar could have something to do with it. there could be some pressure there. try getting a good buddy to help you take it off.

I found you just have to nearly close the gate to relieve some of the pressure on the spring. Then it comes right off just like previous years.
