How long should I let my truck warm up?

On my 6.0. I start it up, and let it idle for maybe a minute or two. Then I take off. But I drive it very easy..... like not much above a fast idle until the engine starts to build some heat. That is just the first few minutes. If I leave home and goto the filling station just up the road...

I honestly do not know how many miles are on my air filter.... I have put close to 30k on my truck and have not changed it. I am not sure if the PO ever changed it, but I am sure they did.... the maintenance records I have on it there were pretty thorough about the maintenance. I have mileage...

    Switching to 4wheel drive

I do know, that on my truck, when you turn the switch from 2HI to 4HI, durning the "instant" of the shift, the PCM will blip the throttle to help reduce the torque durning the shift. Startled me the first time mine did that.....

    Switching to 4wheel drive

Clint, On an ESOF truck, has the switch on the dash and the vacuum/manual hubs, you can switch from 2 HI to 4 HI at any speeds up 55MPH, I believe, as long as all 4 tires are turning at the same speed (not spinning or locked up, etc....). To shift to 4 LO, you need to be at a complete stop...

    Find bad injector

Seth, I you have a scanner that will talk to a PSD (Not all will) you should be able to run a Buzz and a Contribution test to see if you have an issue with an injector. I am sure there are other tests than can be run, but these are the ones that pop to mind.... You will need something...

    best fuel filters??

Smoky, One of the problems with some of the aftermarket filters, is they fit in the housing, but some of the primary filters did not have the water seperator membrane (looks like a dryer sheet over the filter material) and would allow water to the Injectors, which would ruin injectors. Ford...

    Interesting Question about MPG

Yes, there a difference in summer and winter fuels, especially if you live in a cold climate... As we know, diesel fuel has 2 basic grades: #1 and #2 and as diesel fuel gets cold, it will thicken, or "gel" #1 has a lower gel temperature than #2 does. So 100% #2 is fine if the temps are...

    Loosing Acceleration Completely

bmz, Also, the 6.0 is a "fly-by-wire" design. The throttle pedal is electronic, this is from the 6.0L Bible: The AP (accelerator Pedal) is a three track pedal. the AP incorporates three potentiometers. Through out the movement of the AP the resistance values of the three potentiometers...

    Question 4x4 Switch Light Out

Why did Ford have to make this such a P.I.T.A? So is this a "grain of salt" bulb link in a radio? I would have thought it was like what is in the instrument cluster..... oh well, I guess I will have to tear it apart and fix it..... Thank you

    anything good about the 6.0

The biggest thing to cause problems in the 6.0 is a tuner/programmer. There are some that running stock that do have problems but not a many that have been tweaked. I have on and i love it. it has 93k miles on it and has been in for a cold start issue. They flashed the PCM and cleard the...

    New Guy, small antifrz drip

Yes I have, that is normal when it get cold. The PCM will increase the idle to help warm up the engine. Mine will do that, it did over the weekend, it was in the upper 20's when it happened. I think the colder it is, the sooner it happens. Mine does not take 5 minutes. I will also, return...

    New Guy, small antifrz drip

smlarkin, First of all, welcome to SDD. On your coolant leak. The crank pully appears to be wet? I would say that it is likely the water pump. How much are you leaking, if you look down from the top right, look down toward the pulley, do you see coolant on the front of the block behind...
