    Help Needed Truck Advise Needed

From my experience, I've got 311K on mine, never had new injectors (or turbo), but have replaced glow plugs and just about everything else. Any truck with miles above 100K is going to start having things that need to be replaced, and they'll range from the very cheap to the very expensive.

No A/C at idle? compressor cycles rapidly, or stays disengaged....works at speed

What year model is your truck? There is a wire connection at the back of the compressor that tells the compressor to kick on, I've had trouble with that connector lots. Try wiggling that connection and see if that doesn't make it kick on. Mine started out like you are describing, and finally...

    Defroster!!

I think vacuum failure is common (at least it is on my truck) -- I've replaced mine two or three times and it needs it again. Your vacuum pump is on the passenger side fender well, behind that battery. Should have an orange plug going to it. No special tools required, 10MM wrench should be...

    Defroster!!

That condition points to a weak/failed vacuum pump. That's what the truck uses to switch from each output position...I guess they default to defrost for safety reason...

HPOP Removal - Can't Get Hoses Off

Disregard....as usually happens, I try again right after I post and it works....was just stuck really good. Added some more elbow grease, got it off. Found a worn o-ring on that connection, hopefully that was my problem...

HPOP Removal - Can't Get Hoses Off

As the title states, I trying to pull my HPOP to trace down an oil leak. The front HPO hose fitting is loose, but I can't get the hose part off of the fitting that goes into the pump. Is there any trick to it? I don't want to force it too much and break the pump or the hose. I got the back...

Morse code coming from the dash!

Your cell phone didn't happen to be on the dash did it? I get lots of interference with mine up there...comes through the speakers when the truck is on.....

    My New Flagpole

Thanks for the comments, guys! I haven't put much thought into lighting it, but I did see some solar lights that are pretty cool...I just don't want to trench enough to run the cable needed to do it nicely.. I may do that sometime in the future, but for now, I'm enjoying the daily up & down...

    My New Flagpole

I've been wanting a flagpole for a long time...wanted to share what I built. Cost less than $100 for the hardware. I used a 24' SS20 fence pipe in a 3" sleeve buried 42". It's 20' tall, I'm using 3x5 flags. I did order a 5x8 US flag to fly on special occasions. Whatcha think?

    Homegrown WVO system

What I did was start by frequenting the place...get to know the owners, become a regular.... You'll have much better luck with small shops than larger ones (most of the times, the larger ones have contracts and are less likely to deal with you anyways). Then, just tell them what you are doing...

    Homegrown WVO system

You can piece one together, sure, but you might do just as well to get the whole kit while you're at it. I've got the plantdrive setup, it's been working really well. You'll probably want another filter, so you can use one for your WVO, the other for diesel. I think you'll need more heating...

    Help Needed Dead Batteries

Easiest way is to take them in to autozone, oreilly's someplace like that.... have them load test them and they can tell you if they're good or not. For at-home testing, what I'd do is unhook the batteries when you're going to leave it set for a while....when you hook it back up if it cranks...

    Fuel Injector Computer Module........where

You may have to forgive my ignorance, but I don't think the 7.3's have FICMs...what you're probably looking for is the IDM? You say you tried a friends out, where was this unit you replaced located at?

OK, really dumb question about charging batteries

+1. Our batteries aren't hooked up in series, they are hooked up parallel -- so your charge will go to both of them If they were in series, you'd have 24 volts.

    Fuel leak

I use my aux tank for veg oil, so that's a bit different than most, but I have experienced this. My theory is the check valve that's supposed to float and shut off the flow to the main tank gets "stuck" with gummy oil. Beating on the top of the check valve with a wrench usually solves it for...

    Help Needed High Amperage Relay

That is pretty high amps... I thought about a glow plug relay, but the Stancor one I've got on my truck is only rated for 200 Amps continuous duty. Stancor makes a 500 amp relay, part # 802-686-905. Mouser electronics has it for about $165.00.

Figured out why my gear rollover was so loud!!!!!

On stock trucks, a dual-mass flywheel was used. This consisted of -- you guessed it -- two discs held together by springs. The idea behind it is the spikes caused by the running engine are dampened by the spring in the flywheel, saving wear and tear on your transmission. The dual-mass setup...

CPR fuel system going in this weekend!!

For your miss... Give you a tip if you haven't tried it on your miss -- When I get one again, I'll ALWAYS do this first...made it so easy the last time. Take your valve covers off and run it...look at the oil spouts, see which one(s) aren't pumping...that's your culprit. that will at...

    Kids Car Seat?

We've used booster seats in the middle of the back with no shoulder harness. I strap them in tight enough I feel comfortable they won't be going anywhere in the event of a quick or sudden stop.
