    Fuel Pump Going South?

Only after the first startup sounds like the EBPV sticking then. You should hear the change in engine sound from it, like air rushing. Also if you hold RPM at 1200-1500 in park with it closed, the engine will warm up in under 5 minutes...something I've had to do on those mornings the ice keeps...

    Fuel Pump Going South?

15 mph is pretty harsh for the EBPV, you should hear the air wooshing from it if it was closed that far. Does power come back, then go away again after you run it at higher speeds like a fuel restriction? You could pull the fuel restriction sensor and replace it with a hose barb. Then stick...

What a pain in the ---!

HEUI injectors eat air for breakfast. No worries as long as it is just for a short time while clearing air from the system. Long runs on air can score the injector plunger and barrel

    Ball Joints

Welcome! On my 95 it was pretty easy to figure out as I went. I'm not sure how much different that Super Duty is tho. You might want to start a new post in the General Super Duty section to get info specific to your year.

    hydraulic oil in auto trans

One thing I can think that might be important is friction modifiers to help with smooth clutch engagement and prevent slipping. Those are going to be more important with a stock tranny, and less needed with a highly built one. Racing built trannys often are run with type F which is thicker and...

    Fuel level float information

Some have put a 40 gallon bronco tank in the back. Should be able to use that sender with a little modification. Or maybe make a longer float arm for the stock one? I think most automotive senders work in the same resistance range, tho you could measure with an Ohmeter to be sure. Marine senders...

Another use for Glow Plugs? Combustion Temp Sensors

From what I've heard, that (startup white smoke) and rough idle seems to be common for a broken spring. Hard to diagnose but some who replaced broken springs themselves when doing a DIY injector MOD had those symptoms go away.

    Power steering problem

Hey Casey, The crack behind the steering box is fairly common if you lift the truck but don't use a drop pitman arm. Saw several that had been welded and were re-cracking. Worth checking if you have the steering box off.

Another use for Glow Plugs? Combustion Temp Sensors

They vary with age from 1-9 ohms IIRC. Resistance increases as they heat, but figure 12 amps per GP initially. I've seen mini relays (about 1/2 inch sq) rated at up to 20 amps, tho I don't know how long they can handle that w/o overheating.

    Power steering problem

You wont lose any fluid from an internal leak. The box is relatively easy to change. You'll need to rent a pitman arm puller. The hose fittings are likely metric, and you'll want the tubing wrenches so you don't mess them up. Fairly straight forward but it's a heavy pig, so kind of a pain to...

    Power steering problem

This isn't exactly how the steering box works but will give you the general idea. The steering gear that moves the wheels is sort of loosely connected to the part that is turned by the steering wheel. The upper part has sort of like a "hydraulic valve" inside. When you turn the steering wheel...

Another use for Glow Plugs? Combustion Temp Sensors

Depends how much $$$ you want to spend. Cheapest would be to just read one at a time. I see you have a homemade breakout box in your sig. Does it break out the individual GP's too? If so you could be ready to try it out ;)

    Keyless entry

If memory serves, only the RKE has the battery saver function. Leave the door open, and after a half hour or so, the dome lights should go out if you have RKE. Other than the jumper connector, look directly behind the pocket to the right of the steering wheel. From underneath the RKE module...

Another use for Glow Plugs? Combustion Temp Sensors

Yeah, thermocouple for the milliamp reading, or a thermister for the resistance change. I was thinking of re-routing each GP wire (external wiring) to a PCB with 8 mini relays. That way when the GP's are on, the relays allow full voltage to them, and when they are off, they would be...

Another use for Glow Plugs? Combustion Temp Sensors

Ran across this thread on the bio-infopop. Something I had heard about years ago but forgot. That thread goes into many uses for the test, but I'll present it more from a simple diagnostic perspective. Because of the different materials in glow plugs, they will produce a tiny voltage, varying...

    Leaking Fuel

Basically it's a shaft that rides against the cam eccentric and actuates the fuel pump. Kind of like a lifter. If you loosen the fuel pump without removing it, then rotate the engine till the follower pushes the fuel pump up to the highest point, that should eliminate the clearance for the...

    Leaking Fuel

Pull the Y-pipe and filter housing, then the fuel pump is easy. There is a cam follower (or whatever you want to call it) under it. Loosen the pump, then turn the engine till it pushes it up. DO NOT LET THE FOLLOWER FALL INTO THE ENGINE! It happens to a lot of people, so don't be one of them...

Hard to start at 40 degrees

Ditto. You have a short stroke high RPM diesel engine. There is no throttle, so any fuel sprayed in the intake will cause the engine to rev as fast as it can till the fuel is depleted. If you really have to, then very small bursts of WD40 won't be too likely to cause damage, but better to fix...

    New Fuel

BP refineries have been shipping ULSD for about 3 years on the west coast. Most any diesel bought at Arco would have been ULSD during that time. By the time I found that out I had already ran over 20k on it. Never noticed any performance difference. Supposedly the additives provide better...
