    intermittent power loss, eating oil

thanks for the clarification, it can make a big difference. :) with the odd idle you described I'd go with the injector o-rings. when they are hot they are more flexible allowing more to pass by when they(and the oil) cooled down it is not as easy to pass by changing the injection pressure...

Exhaust leak at back of motor

the up pipes are the likely source, it can be where they join the "baby's butt" into the turbo or down lower at the manifolds. As to if you can do it yourself that all depends on your level of mechanical inclination and your tolerance for bolts that require a triple jointed midget with...

    95 engine into a superduty

the intake manifolds have a couple fewer bolts on the '95 heads than the later models and you'll need to run you later model intakes, block off the fuel pump port. It'll work you just need to use the long block from the '95 and swap everything else over from the newer engine. I'd suggest using...

    intermittent power loss, eating oil

the white smoke has me concerned that you are burning coolant which could be a cracked injector cup or a blown head gasket. white smoke from a diesel is too much fuel on a cold engine (black when hot) or just like a gasser antifreeze. In your situation I'd start with checking all of the...

    Question Diesel swap

If you want to change the cab/bed configuration then you'll want to swap drivetrain to the new frame & body as the step up behind the cab on you SC will hit the body on the CC cab.

    high idle

This is one of those times where it would be very helpful to have a scanner capable of looking at each sensor and what the PCM is seeing. The reality is that it is summer and it's hot, discovering high idle is often a winter phenomenon, as a result my distance mechanical diagnosis is that you...

    97 7.3 will not start

check the maxi fuses under the hood, likely is you'll find one blown, Either the IDM or the PCM share the same fuse with the fuel bowl heater and when it shorts out you're left with a truck that won't go anywhere.

    Question 97 f250 oil leak

since you say from above the backside of the starter I'm going to take that to be that to be in the neighborhood of the trans dipstick if you have an automatic transmission. Depending on the slope the truck was sitting on when you noticed the oil pouring would help determine where the oil...

    front tank fuel gauge?

there is a possibility however not highly likely. Honestly dropping the tank is not as difficult as it seems especially if you run it rather low on fuel. I have a 33 gal tank in the rear of mine and it was a 1 man job to drop it for modifications.

Smallest CAT Engine I have ever seen.

keep in mind that cat dropped all on road engines recently and so they need to diversify their market within off-road engines to keep the same $$'s coming in.

So Which Handle Would You Reach For...???

Any color under the sun is what I've seen, Green, Black, Red, Yellow. I read labels that's the only sure way. BP uses green handle covers as their default for most pumps since green is one of their corporate colors you'll find that most BP stations will have all green handles on the gasoline...

    front tank fuel gauge?

yes mods are present to help the venting and while you're working on it you can make it easier to use the larger nozzles that flow fuel faster often found where larger trucks fuel up. Here is an excellent writeup on how to do the mod

    Diesel shop location??

There is one shop that I know exists and based on web information I wouldn't send my worst enemy to them, Pensacola Fuel Injection/Pensacola Diesel. They offered very cheap PSD injectors and there are numerous web posts where the truck would not run with the "new" parts but the old ones that...

    front tank fuel gauge?

given the rapid fluctuations you're describing, I'm presuming that since you indicated front tank you are not seeing the same variations on the rear tank. There are 3 things that would cause problems 1. Gauge - not this because symptoms are not present on rear tank 2. wiring grounding out...

    Hello

Welcome, the 6.7's are a good engine and seem to get reasonable mileage however the towing mileage is not significantly above what the 7.3 was delivering. If you skim through this thread on pirate you'll find a few real world mileage numbers posted, just ignore the nonsense & cyber posturing...

Asheville of course take a trip to see the biltmore estate, the house is amazing the craftsmanship makes me drool. The opulence of that lifestyle leaves me in awe but at the same time realizing that the Vanderbilt's actually knew what a hard day of work was. The blueridge parkway is nice and...

Question 97 350 auto trans shift lag when warm

Fair price for a stock rebuild, I'd ask them if they would put in a shift kit for you while they are doing the work if you provide them with the parts. If they will then I'd order a transgo tugger HD2 kit Here's a vendor and just have them leave the plate with no enlarged holes. This alone will...

    front fuel tank ?????

yep you can run on only the rear tank mine was converted to single tank and the switch valve was simply capped with some rubber slip caps to prevent dirt from getting in and the dash switch was hidden and taped in the rear position. As for the repair check the rest of the tank out and...

Bought another 7.3 to add to the family.

the later stuff supports more power from the factory, better or worse is in many cases in the eye of the beholder, so I"ll let you be the judge there. It's little things that all add up and give you more power stock, however the early '99s aren't horrible to start with, just figure out up front...

Question 97 350 auto trans shift lag when warm

What are they including in the 1900 for a full rebuild? are they including the torque converter, even if it is still good now it is best to put one in now to save pulling the transmission down the road. the SS could be a culprit. Sadly with the years these trucks have on them the time is also...

Bought another 7.3 to add to the family.

yes it will all swap, though often it is not just a single component but a component system that will need to be swapped. the turbo for example, the outlet is in a different position so the I/C pipes do not line up just right, the intake plenums are smaller but the larger plenums will bolt on...
